Contributions to The Surfer’s Journal are welcome. We’re always looking for writers, photographers, artists, and surfers to introduce us to new areas of interest. We strongly suggest that you read recent issues of the magazine to acquaint yourself with the type of work we publish. Submissions that offer excellent photographic backing, or the possibility thereof, will be strongly considered. If you have photos or video to accompany your work, please upload them to the appropriate submission section. We ask that all written pieces be submitted as Word documents.

We do not accept simultaneous submissions and prefer original, previously-unpublished material. Please let us know should that not be the case. Due to volume, we cannot provide individual feedback on submissions, though we do closely consider each one. We unfortunately can only respond to ideas we'd like to explore further. We appreciate your interest in the magazine.

Readers contributing informal work in the way of letters, comments, essays, poems, art, and bursts of inspiration, please submit via the “Readers Write” section.

Thank you for your interest in The Surfer’s Journal.

For written submissions, please include a very short cover letter, summarizing your wave-riding/writing background, as well as why you feel this piece/pitch would be a good fit for TSJ. It can also be useful to note whether your story has strong photographic accompaniments.

As a reader supported publication, the perspective and creativity of individuals like you always helps to enrich our work. Readers contributing informal work in the way of letters, comments, essays, poems, art, and bursts of inspiration, please submit via the “Readers Write” section.
